Anyone who read either book this month, Sara Kipp’s original choice of “Angel of Darkness” or her substitute for the wordily challenged like myself, “The Road” missed an awesome “books” discussion. We had a book club newcomer who didn’t know what to expect and her insight into our past THREE books she had read was terrific! As always, we pull from our personal life experiences and varying ages and backgrounds to create an environment that is both intellectually stimulating and pee-in-your-pants hilarious. Please consider joining the “Readers of the Round Table” and as our name implies, everyone’s imput is equally valuable, however, our table is actually square. Carol

Well, never one to back down from a good literary scoff - I found this story absolutely exquisite. The writing was such a breath of fresh air – an artistry that you don’t find in many of today’s books. He took care with word selection and tone. The timelessness was impeccably done and regardless of the storyline or how dark it was, I could not put it down. When something is as gorgeous as the prose in this tale, it is above and beyond the norm. I found myself stopping at sentences and re-reading them just to taste them one more time before I moved on. That is rare…

It makes the movie “Threads”, from the 80’s look like a walk in the park. It is thought provoking, a nuclear detonation… would anyone want to survive? Ask yourself, would you?

This is a very dark book but at the same time you can’t put it down. You need to find out the ending.

As always, I either love or hate a Sara Kipp selection. This one was both. I hated the apocolytic nature of the story, but I loved the writing and the biblical undertones. It is one of those books that I come to appreciate and think about long after I have read it. If you liked this one I recommend trying Life of Pi.
