It was a good coming of age story. I could relate to parts of it at different times in the storyline.
I found that alot of books have parents in the 50’s being very self centered, as a family unit. Dad off wondering, Mom cracking up or sick, and the kids left dangling in the middle. Or the flip side, Mom and Dad having absolute control and kids getting eveything that parents wished for.
Alot to discuss in this months book club choice.

This book reminded me of so many others - The Glass Castle, The Secret Lives of Bees, and O Pioneers! I love the female narrative style of this story. Tamara has a great wit and I was laughing the whole way through as she sarcastically describes day to day life with her family and neighbors.
Sometimes the simple stories are the most enjoyable and a window into another time and place.
