Author Matt Witten: An Evening with the Author of 51%
Join us at the Stillwater Public Library on Wednesday, September 30 at 6:00 PM for an evening with author Matt Witten, who will share his newest novel, 51%.
Set just twenty years in the future, 51% imagines an America where corporations have taken privatization to its extreme—including owning a percentage of the people themselves. When a young immigrant woman who is 51% corporate-owned is murdered, an NYPD detective and his unlikely partner set out to uncover the truth, leading them into a dangerous conspiracy involving corporate power, a growing Resistance, and a powerful artificial intelligence.
Part dystopian thriller, part crime novel, 51% is a fast-paced story that explores power, justice, technology, corporate control, and what happens when people become commodities. The novel’s premise may be futuristic, but its questions are surprisingly close to home.
Witten brings an especially interesting perspective to the conversation. A novelist, screenwriter, playwright, and television writer, he has written for television series including House, Law & Order, Pretty Little Liars, and CSI: Miami. His previous thriller, The Necklace, has been published in multiple languages and optioned for film, while Killer Story won a Foreword Indie Award for Best Mystery.
The evening will include a conversation with Witten and an engaging discussion facilitated by Nancy Kanizar, followed by an opportunity for questions.
